15 year old Mitchell Wollen found more time on his hands due to the novel coronavirus lockdown. He is a competitive swimmer in the relay team and has won multiple awards. He would usually keep his days full with school, homework and training.
Wollen said, “With my newly acquired free time, I wanted to help others who are struggling immensely during these challenging times.”
He added, “I began to envision all the healthcare providers who are working tirelessly to provide care to those who have fallen ill in my community.”
With the help of his family, he brainstormed and started making ‘thank you’ signs. Wollen said that “each heart is cut, sanded and then painted. Later, ‘thank you’ is painted in white paint, and a post is attached. My family and I deliver and install each sign in the yards of our customers.”
Powered by posting a picture of the product on Mitchell’s mom’s Facebook page, he got 105 orders by the next week. Each sign was sold for $10 with total money raised being over $1200.
The proceeds will go to providing meals for healthcare workers.
